Guide to Missions
If you're reading this, it means you must be interested in taking on a mission. Missions offer a different way to amass Cash and EXP outside of battle. Most missions will involve some form of roleplaying and possibly one or more battles against controlled opponents.
Part 1 - Mission Masters
All missions in NT are controlled by special mods known as Mission Masters. Mission Masters have the authority to create and direct their own missions. Regular players cannot start missions, however, if a mission posted by a Mission Master is "open", they may accept it, if they qualify.
Once a mission has started, the Mission Master will control the narrative and direction of the story. Because of this, you should have some basic roleplaying skills so you can participate.
As events progress in the mission, you will inevitably come into contact with "obstacles". Your choices and decisions will make a key difference in the success of your mission. Some missions may require you to solve puzzles, while others will have you battling other ninja, or possibly a combination of both.
However, these obstacles will usually be within your power to overcome. A ranking system sorts available missions according to difficulty.
Part 2 - Mission Rankings
Missions are sorted according to difficulty. This "ranking" is displayed in the form of a letter scale. The difficulties of missions rank from easiest to hardest: D, C, B, A, S.
D Class (Level Requirement: 1 or Above)
These missions are the easiest of the bunch, and are usually reserved for players who are level 1 to 5. Usually, D Class missions consist of very basic roleplaying puzzles and/or a battle with a warrior of a similar level. Basically, these are the beginner missions.
C Class (Level Requirement: 5 or Above)
These missions are similar to D Class missions. The puzzles are usually harder and the fights are of higher level as well. Most of these missions will involve both roleplaying puzzles and battles, so they require more versatility than the D Class variety. Still, these missions are considerably simple, and with a higher level, your power should be enough to tackle any enemies in your path.
B Class (Level Requirement: 10 or Above)
Here's where the difficulty really starts to pick up. Key decisions will greatly affect your path, and will be a major factor in your rate of success. Battles become more dangerous, and some times, there will be two or more during the course of the mission. As the difficulty of these missions rises quickly from its predecessors, so do the rewards at stake. B Class missions have a knack for paying off more than D or C Class Missions.
A Class (Level Requirement: 15 or Above)
Things get serious at this point. The stakes are higher and enemies are lurking around every corner. Smart decisions will lead to your progression or your imminent demise. Prepare for several difficult battles and mind-wracking puzzles to test your might and wit. A Class missions are reserved solely for the elite, and tend to have the highest pay-off of any mission type.
S Class (Level Requirement: 20)
These missions are for any ninja who have attained the maximum capabilities of a shinobi. S Class missions have a cryptic nature, and due to the circumstances of these missions, the requestors usually remain anonymous. Most S Class missions have little or no reward posted. Instead, there is usually an opportunity to claim rare and valuable items at one or more points throughout the mission. However, accrueing these rewards is no easy task. In fact, most S Class missions have a very low success rate. Only the most cunning and powerful of players can even hope to progress through these trials. Yet, to those who have risen far and above their piers, S Class missions provide a compelling challenge with exclusive rewards found nowhere else.
Part 3 - Applying for Missions
Once you have found a mission that suits your level of ability, you may apply for it. Keep in mind, missions are distributed according to first come-first serve basis. If someone has posted an application on a mission before you, and they are eligible, they will get priority over you.
If you do manage to apply to a mission before anyone else, and you fit the requirements, you will receive notification from the Mission Master allowing you to either Accept or Reject the mission. If you do not respond to the notification within 2 days, you will be disqualified from the mission. You may re-apply to the mission, however, your priority will be reset.
When deciding whether or not to accept a mission, it is important to consider the reward of the mission. In order to start the mission, you must pay an intel fee of 10% of the mission's reward. This fee pays for the mission information from the mission agency and allows you to embark on the mission.
As soon as you pay the intel fee, your mission will start. Intel fees are non-refunable, and if you fail the mission, you will not receive it back. There are three ways you can fail a mission:
Defeat - Your ninja is defeated in battle or fails the mission objectives.
Demise - A story event or puzzle causes your ninja to be defeated or fail their objectives.
Disqualification - In order to maintain a mission, you most post at least once every 3 days. If after 72 hours, you have not posted, you will be disqualified from the mission, and you will fail. There is a grace period allotted for up to 2 weeks, in which you may be absent. If you alert the Mission Master that you will be absent for such a period, you will gain the full 2 weeks of grace. However, if you are not heard from within a week, you will be disqualified. You receive only 1 grace period per mission, and if this problem occurs frequently throughout your mission history, then there is a possibility that you will lose your grace period ability for a time.
Part 4 - Terms of the Mission
In the mission briefing will be listed the terms of the mission. These terms will define certain rules which will effect the mission; for instance, you may be forbidden to change your jutsu roster throughout the mission--things like that.
It's important to examine the terms of the mission thoroughly, so you know just what you're in for.
The Mission Master may require you to provide various information, such as submitting a jutsu roster or determining your inventory. It is important to remember that once your start a mission, your stats and items are set in stone. Even if you win a battle outside of the mission and level up, you will retain the same level while in the mission. Likewise, if you buy a new weapon or jutsu, you will not be able to use it during the mission. Make sure you're set for your journey before you accept it.
Part 5 - Claiming Your Reward
If you emerge from your mission successful, your Mission Master will bestow you with the listed reward, as well as any other items you may have obtained through the mission. You may then add your reward to your account. It is important to remember that you must add the reward to your account immediately. If you do not claim your reward within 5 days, you will usually be disqualified from it.
Likewise, if you fail your mission, you will not receive your reward, and will forfeit any items you obtained through the mission.
_____________
Well, that about wraps it up. Your mission master will take it from here. If you are in a mission, and ever have any questions, ask them, as they will be happy to aid you in your pursuit.
Just a few reminders and basic etiquette to follow as a ninja:
- Do not ask, beg, or complain for missions. If there are no open missions, then you must be patient and wait. Many times, the Mission Masters will be overwhelmed, and it will not be possible to host any more missions. If you are patient and you wait, you will be much more likely to receive a mission, as opposed to those who beg or whine and are disqualified from missions completely.
- Do not "god-mod". Know your ninja's limitations. Nobody likes a roleplayer who allows their character to be all-powerful, and that includes the Mission Masters. If you do not respect the limitations of your ninja during the roleplaying session of your mission, you Mission Master will probably grow angry and make things difficult for you. Missions do have a way of growing a lot more difficult very quickly.
- Be respectful. Honoring the Mission Master's decisions makes the whole process a lot easier for everyone. If you fail or are disqualified from a mission in a way you feel is unfair, then report to me or another admin. In nearly every case, the Mission Master's decision is final, however, special consideration is given in certain circumstances. The Mission Masters do make mistakes sometimes--they're only human after all. Above all, DO NOT lash out because you failed a mission. If you argue with the Mission Master, not only will you not be considered for a recall, you will probably lose the privilege to participate in missions, and, in more dire situations, you may be suspended from the forums or even banned.
That completes the guide. Thanks for reading and good luck on your adventure!
